Any out there on this forum? I've never played it but its a lovely instrument to learn. What about you, have you ever dabbled in the violin?

I want to too. Either that or viola. I personally think violas sound cooler, though it depends on if I have the money to buy a good one. Problem with a violin/viola is that it's something you need a teacher for. From what I hear it's a difficult instrument to learn on your own.

yep, need a mentor or a teacher to teach you, because if not, you're gonna mess it up big time.

An instrument that sounds great like a violin would be a shame if played badly.

the sound a beginner in the field makes is completely and utterly awful and nasty, dunno if you've ever heard it before? But yeah, once someone intentionally played it wrongly, and it screeched in my ears and the sound was weird.

Personally I think there's a difference in playing between a noob and someone who just sucks, or doesn't know how to play it.

I wouldn't actively listen to them. The only way I'd do it is when I'm taking violin lessons.

yeah, but sometimes you can't get out of it, like onetime, I was sitting there in a metro wagon, and someone started playing the violin all of a sudden, and boy it made me cringe, the sound it made i mean.

I'd love to get a violin one day. Never touched one before, though.
