Well you're not listening to the right Indie. I don't really consider it a genre since it's mostly an umbrella term for music that's not famous. There is stuff like Indie Pop

What do you classify as just Indie? Unsigned or do you mean like the actual genre? It's really confusing to me what indie actually is.. haha.

Well personally I don't consider it a genre since everybody names different bands and can't come to an agreement on what the "Indie" sound is.
Or they name mainstream bands that aren't Indie

yeah ive always considered indie to mean independent from a record company.

The indie genre is a hard one.
Does it mean that all of the underground self-produced hip-hop out there is actually indie rap?
I don't really have an indie collection, or even playlist (it's merged with my folk playlist), but I do like bands with the stereotypical indie/shoegaze-y sound, like Silversun Pickups.

Well you can still be Indie and on a record company, but it has to be on an Independent record label and not a major record label.
SST is an Indie Label, Reprise is not.

I like that it's individual most of the times, and although a lot of them sound a like, some of them don't at all.
