This thread is about discussing your favorite recording software.

Here's a list of some popular ones:

Pro Tools

Cubase

Fl Studio

Logic Pro

Garage Band

Acid Pro

Reason 6

Audacity

Out of all of these, Garage Band and Audacity are free. Though I'm not sure if Garage Band is free or even available for people without Macs. Reason 6 is the only version that is a recording program.

I personally use Reaper and Acid Pro 7. I do sometimes use Audacity for some simple edits.

I normally use Ableton live 8 and Native-instruments programs like Kontakt or Reaktor.

LMMS is another good one. It is set up alot like FL studio and is pretty easy to use.

I got the hang of it pretty quickly.

I'm not familiar with that one. I don't really know anyone who uses it.

The only one I have at my disposal is Acid pro 7, and I often have problems coordinating rhythm with it. I want to use the MIDI VSTs I bought, for percussion, but I find myself having to coordinate complex rhythms by hand, and the loop regions are always WAY off. It's the only program I have for this though, so I make due with it.

I use Acid Pro, but I've never made any rhythm tracks on it though. I mostly use it to record/mix my recordings.

So far it's been pretty good with that also. I think where it really shines is how it handles VST tracks. You don't even need a single live instrument to make a full-fledged song!

I never tried the VST's either. I have Reason 5 for my VST stuff and I put those tracks in and record my live instruments with them in Acid Pro.

I have the Reason 5 demo and can't figure anything out.

To make Reason work, you have to have a keyboard (the instrument) or import midi and pick the patches for it from the soundback. It's really just a synth software.

I am aware. Synths and Drum Machines confuse me to no end.

I'll probably go more into detail on it tomorrow since it's late here.

Or you can also use the actual computer keyboard as well.

Don't you have to use like a mouse keyboard? That's the only way I got it to work like that.

You can use it that way as well; but I use it by pressing the keys.
The whole middle row (A to the ') are the bottom keys, while the sharp/flat keys are in the upper letters (W,E; T,Y,U; O,P).

Or unless I'm confusing with that you meant.

It doesn't work for me when I do that. I have to use a program like Bome's Mouse Keyboard to do that.

Really? I pressed F4 and a little keyboard window popped-up with the choice of switching between Mouse and Computer Keys.
That's odd though, that yours doesn't let you.

Just tried the F4 thing. Mind = blown.

Though I never really did use the mouse keyboard and mostly just run midi through it.

Probably, the old theme was messing up and I couldn't remember the custom settings I had for it. This currently is the default for the theme I've been using.

I use Reaper and Ableton Live.

Reaper is for recording directly from a source and Ableton is for electronic music and programming ezdrummer as Reaper is slow and confusing for that function.

Since we have some new peeps, what programs do you use? I did switch to Acid Music but that's really just Acid Pro, so I switched back to Acid Pro.

Do you guys use VST's in your recordings?

I use GarageBand. I have a bunch of plug-ins and stuff for it tho, so it sucks less. I really want to get Logic.

Is logic hard to pirate?

I wish I had the ram/space for Pro Tools
