Where's the talent?!

Pretty much, throw out some underground or perhaps some underappreciated metal bands here...

Check out The Sharon Tate, just recently discovered these guys...awesome group of musicians...

What genre, or sub-genre really, are they?

I think they're Blackened Progressive Technical Deathmetal.

No genres, I don't roll with them...just 'metal'...aiming at bands that you've probably never heard of before...


Another is 'A Breath Before Surfacing'...specifically the song 'Ray Road', such an epic solo in that one...

The only reason I asked is just to get a general idea of what they sound like. And yes, I haven't heard of any of the bands you have mentioned, but isn't that the point of this thread?

Oh no...def not my style lol...started off ok, the music is decent, some potential there but that singer is terrible...he sounds like he's going to blow his voice out at any moment...straining WAY too hard, but he does have a decent clean voice, but I despise that sound lol...

Actually, relistening to 'Call to Arms' and I hear a huge Scar Symmetry influence...not bad for the style, but I think they would hit a bigger fan base if they pulled out the screaming and turned into a heavy rock sound...

I love Scar Symmetry, Christian Alvestorm has an amazing voice with so much versatility. You know he left Scar Symmetry? His other band sounds exactly the same as Scar Symmetry though, go check them out of you don't know them already: Solutions .45.

I kinda like the sound of The Defiled, but I agree with you, his clean vocals is better with than his screams.

Oh yea, I know all about Solution .45 (no 's')...lol you're right they sound identical...have you heard the new SS? The new singer is an exact match, you can tell it's the guitarists that really make that band(s)...


I know I harp and mark out to these dudes a lot, but Carnifex is the shit...new album drops next week, those dudes are still opening for dbag bands like veil of maya and unearth (terrible bands!)...

Just a typo... No I haven't heard their new stuff, I'll go check it out. It's amazing how some bands can find an almost exact match for a new lead singer. I don't know if you know Textures (From Nederland, progressive, but not that progressive), you can't really tell the difference between their old and new lead singer.

I like a bit of progressive metal, but not to progressive. I absolutely love Periphery, do you know them? Very good musicians and their lead singers range is again amazing, not even I can hit notes that high.

Yea, another prog band I couldn't get into lol...I like prog metal bands, like All Shall Perish...I don't really like how most of those bands put in so much chaotic guitar work, it throws it off for me...

Fair enough. I just like that djenty sound.

I recently discovered 2 new bands, both female fronted. System Divide - 2 lead singers, female and male, actually husband and wife. She is from Isreal and he is from Belgium. They combined the sound of their 2 previous bands. They're melodic death with some metalcore influences. The other one is Straight Line Stitch, melodic metalcore - I absolutely love her voice.

Yea I've seen SLS twice now...the first time was at a DevilDriver show and the band ran their own merch table so we chilled with them a bit...just saw them again at Mayhem fest, they're ok, she's badass though...

Also Landmine Marathon is pretty good for a chick-fronted band, but mainly because she's brutal as fuck...

Gotta check out System Divide...

She is a bit too brutal for me. I need some clean vocals inbetween. Not a big fan of straight up brutality.

Tasters - Italian metalcore band. They have 2 drummers...something you don't see everyday. I don't know a lot of their older work but I absolutely love their new work.

Slot - Don't know if you know them already. They're from Russia but they have more a nu metal vibe to them. They recently released some English songs, but the female lead sounds better in Russian but the male lead sounds better in English so I'm a bit torn. Go check out those two and tell me what you think.

I think they both have potential.

Tasters only has 1 drummer...and they're ok, kind of that 'blandcore' style ala Emmure and Suicide Silence...

Blandcore..? lol. Thats a bit harsh. Tasters used to have 2 drummers, but the verdict is still out if they currently have one or 2 drummers. In one of their latest 2 videos they featured the second drummer (Please Destroy This World) but the other video (Sleeping with the spirits) only features one.

Did you listen to the english or russian songs of Slot? I like the russian songs better. The difference between them and Lacuna Coil is that there is a better balance between the male and female vocals, where lacuna is a bit more one sided.

Hahaha that's the term I gave to some of the bands like that...rehashed songs, never changing sounds, terrible guitar riffs (remember I'm an "elitest" when it comes to what I like lol)...

Nope, kinda waiting on it...I'm burnt out on music and BDM's first two albums really have me occupied right now...


And I'm not against 'popular' music, but I will agree I tend to dislike more popular bands...I hate FFDP and A7X, but love (starting to dislike a bit though) Lamb of God and Chimiara...
