The first song I learned how to play was deep purple - smoke on the water.

no easy song advice from me as most have been stated but the key thing i learned is to pivot on one finger, so try and keep one finger in place between chords

Candy by Paolo Nutini It's only like 4 chords but nice and mellow and slowish pace.
Theres also The Dubliners easy song by them are The Ferryman, The Nightingale, Never Wed an Old Man, Peggy Lettermore, Black Velvet Band
Galway Girl is pretty easy by Steve Earle

Smoke on the water is universally seen as a fairly simple song to get you going.

yeah, but he was having trouble w/ chord changes, and smoke on the water doesn't really deal w/ that, even if you do play the power chord version, it's just moving the shape up the fretboard.Elseb1990 wrote:Smoke on the water is universally seen as a fairly simple song to get you going.
