Can anyone recommend me a few folk/blues bands to listen to as prime examples of the genre? I was approached by a band that asked me if I would be interested in playing for them.

I only listen to folk rock, folk punk, and indie folk, and only a small assortment at that, so i'm of no help here.

Sorry :/

Give her suggestions anyway. If not, I'll have to whip out the Westerberg.

But I don't know anything that would fit the description of folk/blues.
It just makes me think of bluegrass.

Maybe this?

Or this?

I mean more folk. I just joined a band and they play folky stuff, and I just want to familiarise myself with the style.

Yes, but I do love it though. My bf would denounce me, he says I'm already pushing my it with playing in a folk/indie, I think campus rock would be more correct, band.

The feather in the hair is pretty common here, so I never assumed that was hipster. Debs needs to get the hipster glasses

Exactly. Put it looks pretty if you have wavy curly hair and is almost the same colour as your hair then it blends in.
