Yah i'm not a Dream Theater fan. I think more music is an expression and not something you right just to brag about.

Dude, writing in any time is easier than it sounds, you just have to write around the measure, which is why bands like DT or The Faceless or even Tool end up sounding generic, because you can't really get a good flow going with an original riff if you're trying to focus it around a certain sig...


My idea behind writing has always been 'write the signature after I write my riff'...my riffs sometimes end up being some crazy shit like 7/13 (pretty sure we nailed one down like that) but I have a great skill in circling it around and making it fluid...it just ends up coming out that way...I think it's because I didn't have formal guitar lessons before, so my mind has always ran wild with riffs...

The thing with Dream Theater is that they'll write a song that's difficult to play with several key and time signature changes as possible. Tool is strange because they were original when they first came out with Aenima, but as time went on and more bands copied them. They come off as sounding like all these bands that are ripping them off, the only difference between Aenima and Lateralus is that they incorporated weird time signatures and added some philosophical bullshit into their lyrics, though reading more and more of their shit sounds like it's all bullshit to get their retarded fanbase all riled up.

Well we played and lost . Mostly due to the fact that the other bands their were hipster college kids with acoustics who brought 30 people with. We did good though . Also we have some more songs up if you guys care to critique!

Better luck next time though. Don't worry, same thing happened to me at a DJ competition. The local girl had way more supporters than me cause my so-called 'friends' didn't want to drive 30 mins to support me... I lost due to a lack of support, so yeah - I know the feeling.

Yah we got about 10 fans out of it and I had some peole ask me if I was in "that Waking up band" over the course of the weekend so I was quite happy.
