Anyone remember playing the recorder in elementary school? It's probably the worst instrument ever made. It's like an obnoxious version of a flute. I'm currently having to learn to play again.

I had to learn it in music class in junior high. I learned how to play mary had a little lamb and jingle bells.

First instrument I ever learn't actually quite enjoyed it. But then I love traditional and medieval songs.

That's strange. I never had to learn that in music class at all back then. You just pick an instrument and just use it back in my day.
Why would that ever be a requirement or aid for learning anything other than a breath instrument? It has nothing to do with percussion, strings, or piano other than the fact that it could hit similar notes!

Dunno, my elementary school did it, and I've seen it in other schools. Usually it's either piano or a recorder

I remember playing it, I actually had to play it for two years, as I was left back because of my bad eyesight, allergies and bullies.
It wasn't very fun! XD
For some reason, someone gave me a Pokemon one with songs from the Anime and a plain old non pokemon like recorder.... I never used it either since I didn't care for it.

Oh why did I have to be reminded of this? It was mandatory in the fourth grade and I didn't want anything to do with music for years after that.

OH... OH MY GOD I FORGOT ABOUT THAT AWFUL PIECE OF CRAP! that thing is a nightmare in the hands of children!
4th grade
EVERYONE had to learn. and my school didn't let us take them home to practice so we basically just sounded horrible forever. they even had us practice in the auditorium which had echoes so crazy that your footsteps sounded like gunshots. so imagine what 32 recorders sounded like.
