Well there's 3 kinds:

Diamond or Pearl (There's also Platinum which is just the slightly enhanced version)

Heart Gold or Soul Silver

Black or White.

Take your pick between those. Though Black and White would probably be the best bet since they're the newest. Most Pokemon games on the handhelds are all basically the same. Just different Pokemon

I have always been a fan of Pokemon. My favorite pokemon is Charizard and my least favorite is Pidgey.

There's crappier Pokemon than Pidgey to hate on.

There is definately worse Pokemon than Pidgey.

Anyway, i love Pokemon games. Heart Gold would probably be my favourite of the series so far.

Best pokemon: Houndoom
Others I use on my standard team: Alakazam, Snorlax, Raichu, Drifblim, and Kingdra (I use something like Heracross or Rhydon instead of Driblim if I play gold/silver)

Worst: Bidoof, Probopass, and those freaking gears.

I have a few things I switch around on my team, but Garchomp is one of my favs.

yeah Garchomp is pretty sweet. Instead of having pseudo legendaries, I like having big heavy HP'd fellows that are easy to get like Snorlax and Drifblim. I have more time to work with making a cool move set, I get them earlier on, and they aren't so out of the way to train (like, to get Dragonite, I'd have to put the Elite 4 or even some of the gyms on hold just to get Dratini and shit up to the levels of my team at the time). It's worth the wait, but I usually prefer to get the fat pokemon instead.

I have a few of those, I like some of the steel types since they tend to have high defense and HP.

Some of the steel types do anyways. Some are really shit (Skarmory), while some are freaking intense (Scizor)

Scizor is ballin. Skarmory should be a badass, but sadly it's not.

Yeah. I mean, a steel bird! Why is it not more useful???

It's basically like those normal birds, but steel.

I always make sure i get a Mareep on Heart Gold, you can't beat electric types!

Mareep and its evolutions are a pretty good electric type to get early on in G/S. I usually end up changing to a different electric type, but for a first line up, Mareep is almost absolutely necessary unless you chose to start with a grass type.

I got those in Gold, but for some reason I chose not to in HG and I was fine.

I always get Mareep whether i'm playing the original game or Heart Gold, simply a great pokemon to use, though i do love electric types.

I like pokemon, I haven't really been in touch with it as of lately though.
Mawile is my favorite pokemon.

I only missed out on the 3rd gen, but from what I hear, it's not that great.

^Gen 3 is personally my least favorite gen of Pokemon. Don't get me wrong, still awesome, and I admit Emerald was a game I found myself stuck playing for a while. But eh.

I don't care how old you are. Pokemon games are amazing. There's no possible way you're sane and dislike Pokemon. It's just. Impossible. I've been hooked for nearly a decade. Hell, I loved playing Pokemon when I didn't know two shits worth of what I was doing. And I still love it.

I don't entirely get how people get so into the battle mechanics and will catch a legendary Pokemon 30 times so they'll get a certain nature and perfect IV's and shit. Just kinda. Ruins the fun. Would make it more of a chore to me than anything.

Some people find that fun, I don't.

I'm not a competitive battler so most of those mechanics things aren't necessary for me.
